Consistency: Ensure uniformity all around the design. Before starting up the project, if you are working with a product manager, ensure the entire look of the website has been decided upon. A perfect example is to decide whether you will be using rounded rectangles or the regular ones. Ensuring uniformity across the board simply makes your work less confusing to the users.
Tooltips and Strokes: Ensure you add tooltips no matter what text field you are designing. Do not make assumptions that the users will understand what they are meant to enter in the field. Also, change the stroke color of the box when the user clicks in and out of it. You can collapse the placeholder text to the top of the text box. The image below describes better.
Custom Sized Fields: Use text box sizes you feel is a perfect size for the text expected from the user.
Obvious CTA buttons: Use accent colors for your main CTAs as compared to primary buttons.
